JE 2026

The Electrochemistry Days is a biennial scientific conference organized under the auspices of the Electrochemistry Division of the French Chemical Society (Société Chimique de France). This event brings together the electrochemistry community to review and discuss major advances in the field.

Electrochemistry is a scientific field at the heart of many societal challenges related to energy, health and the environment. The main topics covered at this conference included:

  1. Photoelectrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry
  2. Molecular electrochemistry, electrosynthesis and electrocatalysis
  3. Electroanalysis, sensors and lab-on-a-chip technologies
  4. Energy: batteries, supercapacitors, electrolysers and fuel cells
  5. Bioelectrochemistry, biosensors and biofuel cells
  6. Electrochemical engineering: electrolytes, recycling and electrometallurgical processes
  7. Corrosion, coatings and surface treatments

Numerous innovative chemistries for electrochemical energy storage were presented and discussed at the conference, notably during the plenary lecture by Fannie Alloin, “Electrolyte Transport Properties: Impact on Limiting Battery Performance”, and the thematic lectures by Philippe Poizot, “Organic Insertion Materials for Electrochemical Energy Storage: The Case of (2,5-Dilithium-Oxy)-Terephthalate as an Electroactive Centre”, and Tristan Petit, “Electrochemistry on Single MXene Flakes”.

Approximately 20% of the submitted abstracts focused on battery technology research, covering a broad range of chemistries and approaches, including lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries, organic and aqueous batteries, redox flow batteries, electrolytes and materials. These contributions highlighted research developments within several PEPR Batteries projects: RADICAL, COFLUENSS, DISCOVERY, HEAL B&B, HIPOBAT and SONIC.

The 230 participants greatly appreciated both the scientific programme and the opportunities for informal exchanges. Highlights included a public lecture by Arnaud Fischer, entitled “The Birth of Electrochemistry: A Charged History”, held in the reception rooms of the Nancy Opera House.
